We described the trophies, controls, and the most important aspects of the game. ASTRO’s PLAYROOM is a platformer video game developed by Team ASOBI and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. As you can tell, there’s not much of a story with this game, but you don’t need a fully fleshed-out plot for this demo. Astro’s Playroom has you controlling one of the Astro Bots as you explore different areas to find artifacts.
Air Combat was originally an arcade game released in 1993, but the port was scrapped and a new game was made using the same name. Tearaway is also references in the PlayStation Labo area, where it’s on the PlayStation Vita Game Pack artwork, and the Vita itself will boot to “Botaway” if you hit it. The same as the previous artefact, but specifically designed to be held by a right hand!

The PS5’s Pulse headset is a headset designed to use 3D audio with PS4 and PS5 games that support it, allowing for sounds to be heard as if all around the player, similar to a surround sound system. It also features two microphones that can cancel out background noises, and still has a 3.5mm jack to use as a standard headset. The PS VR Processor Unit was a box that both the PlayStation 4 and PSVR connected to. It enabled Social Screen video output to the TV, which meant it adjusted the VR headset’s display so that it was viewable on a television. This also allowed it to be used with asymmetrical multiplayer modes such as those used in The Playroom VR, and handles normal 2D content. A revised version of the Processor Unit allowed for HDR passthrough, which was a feature added to all PS4s via firmware.
What this means is that if you, say, reach a Checkpoint with 10 Coins, then pick up 5 more Coins, then die, you’ll respawn at the Checkpoint back at 10 Coins, and need to collect the other 5 Coins again. What this means is that holding X to jump will make Astro jump higher compared to just tapping X, which will only give a short hop. Holding X will make Astro stay in the air for a surprising amount of time, so remember to do this if you’re struggling to make certain gaps. They are located high up above at a tree on the hill top just ahead. To reach the tree, progress the level so you end up behind the hill, and use the PS1-shaped clouds and the steps on the rock face to climb up the wall. To find the special bot in SSD Speedway, head to the Bot Beach area.

Because the UMD drive was removed, the PSP Go could only play digital games, either downloaded from its PSN Store or transferred via a PlayStation 3. It also coudln’t use the Camera, Microphone or GPS peripherals without an adapter. The SingStar Microphone was the iconic peripheral of the SingStar games, of which there were over 70 different releases (including the same game with different setlists per region).

This version has the Circle, X and Options buttons, while the left-hand controller from before has the Square, Triangle and Create buttons. OK365 -up to the original PS VR uses headset-mounted cameras rather than lights, and has a vibration motor. The interior display is four times the resolution of the original, and 3D audio adjusts with your head position. Eye tracking also allows for foveated rendering, where areas you aren’t looking at will not be given priority in order to optimize game performance. Vita Game Packs could also be used on the PlayStation TV, which meant it wasn’t a digital-only platform like the PSP Go was.
Take the machine gun back to where puzzle piece 3 was, where you might have noticed a box with a wire pull in it. Shoot this box to break it, then pull the wire to reveal this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right at the start of the level, look down and to the left to see a group of three of the spinnable flowers. Spin all three to raise the platform they are on, revealing this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – As soon as the level starts, turn around and head back across the platforms to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After reaching the next group of enemies circling a platform, go to the left where you can pull a wire and reach a tightrope.
Then hold down the Square button to attack the plant that sprouts with a spinning move, causing it to grow so you can climb up the CD leaves. There are 4 Special Bots to find in Astro’s Playroom, each located in a different world. Holding the square for a long while will charge a special rotating attack. Astro then for a few seconds begins to rotate and hit everything in reach. If you have only unlocked one or two in Astro’s Playroom, they will appear here individually, meaning you can return and get the rest when you are ready. When you are ready to unlock them, approach their locations in the Crash Site hub.

Astro’s Playroom is a free platforming game, included as a pack-in with the PS5. It’s inspired by the characters and concepts first introduced in The Playroom and The Playroom VR, which culminated in the full-blown Astro Bot Rescue Mission for PlayStation VR. The game serves as a showcase for the DualSense controller’s features and functionality. We awarded the game a 9/10 in our Astro’s Playroom PS5 review, describing it as a “love letter to PlayStation”. Both the roller ball and the ship suits were easily the best of the ones on offer. Considering both get more interesting levels after their introduction.
